城阙辅三秦，风烟望五津。
与君离别意，同是宦游人。
海内存知己，天涯若比邻。
无为在歧路，儿女共沾巾。

Seeing Magistrate Du off to His Post in Sichuan

Th' city towers o'erlook at where Three Qins meet,
And th' Five Fords in rolling mists one can see.
Bidding farewell to each other is what
We errand-officials are meant to be.

So long as there is a true friend indeed,
E'en at Earth's end, he's neighboring to me.
Don't act like women 'n' children at th' crossroads--
At parting they all but woefully weep.

Translator’s notes:
1. Three Qins (三秦): three former kingdoms in what was in the Tang Dynasty three parts of Shaanxi., e.g. Shaan Bei, Shaan Nan and Guanzhong, which surrounded the capital Chang’an. Qin has been a name for Shaanxi for short.
 
2. 辅：in another version, “俯” is for “辅” . “俯”means “overlooking”, which I think makes a better sense in the context of the poem.
