"It’s
hilarious,...and very well put together. The direction of the play,
by first time director Joanne McGee, is outstanding... Jon Mullich
as Malvolio,... steals nearly every scene with his bumbling, love
sick butler, and the trio of Feste, Sir Andrew and Sir Toby played
by Daniel J. Roberts, James Calvert and Gary Lamb, respectively,
are the comedic glue of the play adding a backbone with every
nuance of their comedy. This play is definitely worth checking out,
and is well worth the price of admission, even if you have to drive
to get there."

"This production is a terrific way to start or end your weekend
plans. I'm EXTREMELY proud of this company for pricing their
tickets realistically as other groups continue to up their prices
in order to break even while using promotional discount websites.
At ten dollars per ticket, for a moment I thought that I was in the
year 1998. That's reason enough to support the Crown City
Theatre... Lady Olivia, divinely played by Jennifer Hoyt...
outstanding performances,... Daniel J. Roberts as Feste, who
splashes us with flamboyant characteristics of a human reptile,
adding his tongue to the cast list and substituting his
multi-colored hair for a jester's hat. Gary Lamb, who never breaks
from his ever so cleverly created character of Sir Toby Belch, even
through the end of the curtain call, while the others are done. Jon
Mullich's portrayal of Malvolio, which is quite hilarious, combined
with Tarta Maria Smitheman's facial reactions (as Maria), solid
enough to steal the spotlight without having leading lines. (Bryan)
Gaston also blends well with the cast alongside his twin sister,
(Carrie-ann) Pishnak, whose Cesario adds the perfect amount of
boy-remaining-a-woman so as not to get caught."

"Presented by Crown City Theatre Company in their expansive and
self-built new 66-seat theatre "home," (the most comfy audience
seats in L.A. "little" theatre) this wacky play will delight
audiences, both young and old. Directed with playful passion and
slapstick flair by Joanne McGee, a cast of 11 fresh and funny
actors enact the familiar story with "tongue in cheek" gusto!
Caitlin Erin O'Hare's period costumes, McGee's minimal but clever
set, and original music/live piano work by William A. Reilly set
the tone nicely. Carrie-ann Pishnak is a sizzling standout! as
Viola. Flamboyantly fun work by Daniel J. Roberts. Jennifer Hoyt
shines. Tarta Maria Smitheman gives a spirited turn. Gary Lamb,
James Calvert and Jon Mullich are all screamingly funny in a trio
of nutty roles."

AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
"There is so much talent in this town — Crown City Theatre Company
is bursting at its seams! I've seen "Twelfth Night" countless times
and yet it all felt new again. The intimate venue and clever yet
simple staging put you right in the thick of it (don't worry, no
audience participation required!) I'd swear that Mr. Shakespeare
wrote the part of Malvolio specifically for Jon Mullich, and Gary
Lamb is a super stand-out as Sir Toby Belch. Hats off to the entire
company. Hazzah!!"
I loved this production of Twelfth Night! I am not usually into
Shakespeare, but this was humorous, full of energy, and easy to
follow. Great for all ages and the actors were wonderful, all with
good comedic timing. I highly recommend it! - EMILY
By far the best Shakespeare production I've seen in L.A. For a
small troop with limited resources, it is a real accomplishment. I
look forward to coming productions. - BOBBY B.

Fantastic! Exceeded my expectations for a local theatre company.
Great actors, sparse, but imaginative set, wonderful costumes and
just a romp of a good time. Very well done. - ANNIE T.
A light/breezy adaptation of the Shakespeare work. A nice way to
spend a couple of hours. - JIM
"Thank you for a wonderful opening night show. My teenage niece and
nephew especially enjoyed seeing a Shakespeare play for the first
time in their lives. Your high energy entertaining style and
musical score made it easy for them to appreciate the play." -

Crown City Theatre Company brings Shakespeare’s hilarious comedy filled with passion, mischief and sword play to NOHO. Director Joanne McGee finds all the wit and satire as well as some good old-fashioned slapstick in this very clear and cut-down production that is sure to thrill audiences from ages 9 to 100. Crown City Theatre Company’s new space at St. Matthew’s LGBT Church is a perfect place to create magic as they bring the isle of Ilyria to life.
If you’ve never given Shakespeare a chance you must try this fast funny easy to understand romp.
About The Show
The show is one of
Shakespeare’s best comedies. The lovesick Duke
Orsino of Illyria is relentlessly pursuing the Countess Olivia who
will have nothing to do with him. Viola and her
twin brother Sebastian (who look amazingly alike, wink, wink) are
separated when their ship goes down in a horrible
storm. Both of them end up on the Isle of Illyria
but both think the other has drowned. Being a
woman and alone in a strange place Viola decides to dress as a boy
and goes into the Dukes service. When the Duke
sends Viola to Olivia to plead his love, Olivia falls madly for
Viola. Meanwhile, Olivia’s Uncle, Sir Toby, has
brought his friend, drinking buddy and the guy with the cash, Sir
Andrew, to Olivia’s to pursue her only to find themselves caught up
in a plot to bring-down Olivia’s pretentious serving man
Malvolio. Zaniness ensues as the twins are
mistaken for each other, Olivia chases Viola, the Duke chases
Olivia, Sebastian reaps the benefits and Malvolio is made an
ass.
