when swallows’tails clip my love-sickness
by li jin-fa
when swallows' tails clip my love-sickness
life's buds are still half opening
hopefully the dewdrops at dawn
would take part in this mute blooming
do you not hear the bell ringing
god is not pleased with such noises
but we have to bear all the blame
should we get a sip from the brook
our souls would die a worthy death
when swallows' tails clip my love-sickness
we go hand in hand to the fields
blades of grass shiver in the wind
camellias, daisies and poppies
intend our quietness to embalm
with your smiles and my consoling
we are going to seek fate's trace
or to guffaw at the world's way
