To Wang Can
Sitting upright, I’m in sad mood;
I take my clothes and west I go.
The trees begin now to blossom;
The clear pool stirs up a long flow.
Therein floats a mandarin duck
That does for its mate sadly cry.
I would help this bird to succeed,
Howe’er, I had no skiff to ply.
I’ll go back, but have lost my way;
I look around, stricken with care.
The wind sadly blows by my side,
But the sun goes on, it stops ne’er.
The dense cloud can moisten all things,
Fear not enough water to go?
Who is it that makes you worry,
Granted with a century’s woe?
