On the Sonnet                                                  美麗詩韻

 *與北斗第一星網友元旦譯詩雅和

If by dull rhymes our English must be chained,  倘若无聊之韵非得锁住诗句，

And, like Andromeda, the Sonnet sweet           可爱的商赖诗，犹似被绑的仙女，

Fettered, in spite of pained loveliness,        就得忍受那爱的痛苦，

    Let us find out, if we must be constrained,     让我们瞧瞧，若真要绑住，

Sandals more interwoven and complete            精心编织的凉鞋是否舒服

To fit the naked foot of Poesy:                 尽量般配诗仙赤裸的光脚：

    Let us inspect the lyre, and weigh the stress   让我们细细查看七弦竖琴，

Of every chord, and see what may be gained      将那根根和弦，轻轻调校，

By ear industrious, and attention meet;         竖起耳朵，是否悦耳赏心；

    Misers of sound and syllable, no less           诗韵的守财奴，断不肯比

Than Midas of his coinage, let us be            迈达斯，投入更多的金币，

Jealous of dead leaves in the bay wreath crown; 那就妒羡桂冠边上的枯枝；

So, if we may not let the Muse be free,         唉，倘若你我都无法释放缪斯，

She will be bound with garlands of her own.     她自己还得用那花环掩饰美丽。
