仆夫早严驾，
吾将远行游。
远游欲何之，
吴国为我仇。
将骋万里涂，
东路安足由。
江介多悲风，
淮泗驰急流。
愿欲一轻济，
惜哉无方舟。
闲居非吾志，
甘心赴国忧。

At dawn my groom prepares my cart;
On an expedition I’ll go.
For which country will I depart?
The Kingdom of Wu is my foe.
Ten thousand miles I will gallop;
How can I go the eastern way;
On the River winds oft wallop;
The Huai and the Si rush each day.
A small boat I wish to acquire;
What a pity, there’s no canoe!
Easy life is not my desire;
I would share our motherland’s woe.
