这是秋天，秋天，
This is an autumn day, autumn day;
风还该是温软；
The wind should be as well a lithe fay.
太阳仍笑着那微笑，
The sun still smiles that smile
闪着金银，夸耀
Gleaming with silver to beguile
他实在无多了的
The most extravagant while
最奢侈的早晚！
That he hasn’t so many left any way,
这里那里，在这秋天，
Here, there and on this autumn day,
斑彩错置到各处
Their hues displaced everywhere
山野，和枝叶中间，
On the hills, and between leaves and twigs,
象醉了的蝴蝶，或是
Like drunk butterflies, or
珊瑚珠翠，华贵的失散，
Corrals, pearls, the dispersed glare,
缤纷降落到地面上。
That keep fluttering aground.
这时候心得象歌曲，
Now my heart is like an air
由山泉的水光里闪动，
That in the glimmering of a spring does flare,
浮出珠沫，溅开
Foams emerging, splashed,
山石的喉嗓唱。
And the boulders sing, and now
expressed
这时候满腔的热情
Is the pathos
in my chest
全是你的，秋天懂得，
That is
all yours, the autumn day knows.
秋天懂得那狂放，——
The autumn day knows the unruliness,--
秋天爱的是那不经意
The autumn day loves the thoughtlessness
不经意的凌乱！
The thoughtless mess!
但是秋天，这秋天，
But autumn day, this autumn day
他撑着梦一般的喜筵，
He holds a feast fabulously gay,
不为的是你的欢欣：
Not for your delight:
他撒开手，一掬璎珞，
He throws out a handful of pearls bright,
一把落花似的幻变，
A palm of change like flowers fallen
还为的是那不定的
And just for that uncertain
悲哀，归根儿蒂结住
Sadness, ultimately tied to
在这人生的中心！
The center of human life!
一阵萧萧的风，起自
A wind started to sigh
昨夜西窗的外沿，
From outside the west window last night
摇着梧桐树哭。——
And swayed the parasol tree to cry.--
起始你怀疑着：
In the beginning you were doubtful:
荷叶还没有残败；
The lotus leaves had not faded,
小划子停在水流中间；
The yacht stopping amid the ripples,
夏夜的细语，夹着虫鸣，
The whisper in the summer night did hear
还信得过仍然偎着
The cheep, with confidence clinging
耳朵旁温甜；
To the sweetness by the ear.
但是梧桐叶带来桂花香，
But the parasol leaves brought cassia balm here
已打到灯盏的光前。
Before the light of the lamp.
一切都两样了，他闪一闪说，
All having changed, he said with glimmering eyes,
只要一夜的风，一夜的幻变。
Give me just one night’s wind, one night’s change.
冷雾迷住我的两眼，
The cold mist blinded my two eyes;
在这样的深秋里，
In the deep autumn as such,
你又同谁争？现实的背面
With whom did you struggle? Opposite the reality
是不是现实，荒诞的，
Is that reality, an absurd
果属不可信的虚妄？
Really unbelievable non-reality?
疑问抵不住简单的残酷，
A doubt cannot counteract simple cruelty
再别要悯惜流血的哀惶，
Don’t pity the bleeding mourning any more
趁一次里，要认清
But once for all realize
造物更是摧毁的工匠。
That the Creator is more a destroyer.
信仰只一细炷香，
Belief is but a thin stick of incense,
那点子亮再经不起西风
That tiny glow cannot stand a zephyr,
沙沙的隔着梧桐树吹！
That sighs against the parasol tree!
如果你忘不掉，忘不掉
If you cannot forget, cannot forget
那同听过的鸟啼；
The chirp we heard together
同看过的花好，信仰
The flowers we saw together, belief
该在过往的中间安睡。……
Should sleep amid coming and going......
秋天的骄傲是果实，
The pride of autumn is fruit,
不是萌芽，——生命不容你
Not burgeoning, --life does not tolerate you
不献出你积累的馨芳；
If you do not offer your accumulated fragrance
交出受过光热的每一层颜色；
Or hand out every layer of heated color of yours;
点点沥尽你最难堪的酸怆。
Bit by bit you deplete your most
embarrassed grievance.
这时候，
Now,
切不用哭泣；或是呼唤；
Don’t you weep or shout,
ne'er,
更用不着闭上眼祈祷；
Nor pray with your closed eyes
（向着将来的将来空等盼）；
(Looking vacantly to the future of future);
只要低低的，在静里，低下去
But lower your tired head,
in the calmness there,
已困倦的头来承受，——承受
Lower and lower to bear--to bear
这叶落了的秋天
The autumn when leaves have fallen,
听风扯紧了弦索自歌挽：
Listening to wind hauling the string elegiac:
这夜，这夜，这惨的变换！
Tonight, tonight, this change so tragic.
