[转载]同音异形字（homophone）

    英文词汇有很多同音异形字（homophone） ，听者若不留意上文下（context） ，便很容易产生误会。试看下列例子：

    Peter : The soldier fought his enemy with his bare hands.

    Mary : Wow! The soldier has got a pair of hands like the bear's !

    赤手空拳（with one's bare hands） 被误以为手掌巨大如熊掌（hands like the bear's） ，皆因 "bare" 与 "bear" 属同音异形字。

    当年美国小布什总统一时不慎，说了一句粗话 "Son of a bitch（狗娘养的）!"，他便尝试用 homophone替自己辩解，称只是说了 "Sun on a beach" （沙滩上的阳光）。
