按:二十余年来,业余翻译或校对哲学、社会科学等人文学术期刊和师友论文摘要,至今已经译校不少篇什。它们或长或短,或深奥艰涩,或浅显易懂,却都是经过一番努力,数度推敲,几经润色定稿的。不过,最初几年的译校系手写,故均已散佚。1996年换笔改用电脑后虽然数次更换机器,多次重装或升级系统,其中偶然也有丢失,但绝大多数仍保存于硬盘。今特选择自认为比较忠实原文者,分批转帖,名之为《英译学术论文摘要》,以期方家哂正。下面是其四十三。——啮书轩主人启。

《文学评论》编年史稿(1957~1966)
The journal of Literary Review was named Literary Study when first founded in 1957. However, it was renamed Literary Review, 1959. Yet, when its third issue of 1966 just came out, it was forced to stop publication due to the outbreak of the “Cultural Revolution”. During the nine and a half years of its publication, He Qifang, the then director of Literature Research Institute,China Academy of Social Sciences(CASS), held a concurrent post as editor-in-chief of Literary Review. Compared with its more than 50 years of history, the nine and a half years is not very long, but, as the first stage of its development in history, it laid down the overall style of the journal pertaining to its academic orientation and its editing ideas.

从古希腊开始,西方人就从“摹仿说”入手,将艺术创作看成是认识世界的手段和工具。于是,他们从代数的角度研究音乐,从几何的角度研究建筑,从解剖的角度研究雕塑,从透视的角度研究绘画,从历史的角度研究文学……这种研究既造就了西方艺术的辉煌成果,又导致了西方艺术的观念误区。因为科学手段的介入,确实能给艺术创作带来某种手段上的支撑;但科学精神的渗透,又常常遮蔽了艺术创作的美学目的。不了解科学精神对艺术创作的正面影响,就不可能真正理解西方艺术的光辉业绩;不了解科学精神对艺术创作的负面影响,就不可能彻底反思西方艺术所存在的问题。
《文学评论》最初刊名为《文学研究》。1957年《文学研究》创刊,1959年改名为《文学评论》,1966年出至第三期,因为“文化大革命”爆发被迫停刊。在这9年半期间,何其芳同志作为文学研究所所长,一一直兼任《文学评论》主编。在《文学评论》直至如今50多年的历史上,这9年半的时段不算很长,但它作为《文学评论》发展史上的第一阶段,在刊物的学术定位、办刊思路上,却奠定了这一刊物的总体风貌。
