八方各异气，

千里殊风雨。

剧哉边海民，

寄身于草墅。

妻子象禽兽，

行止依林阻。

                                      柴门何萧条。

狐兔翔我宇。

Everywhere it’s a diff’rent clime; 

Each place varies with wind and rain.

How poor am I by the coast!

I have a hut, and there remain.

My wife and children are like beasts;

By the wood they go, beasts they shun. 

How shabby is my wicker gate!

Hares and foxes come here to run.
